Public Policy Students Reflect on Their Internships: Gregor Riemann at the Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission

Gregor Riemann, Germany
Mundus MAPP candidate, Class of 2016
Intern, Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission
Riemann is interning at the Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission in Budapest this summer, where he is working primarily on outreach, stakeholder management, and market research.
Through his internship, Riemann has had the opportunity to represent the Commission at American Chamber of Commerce luncheons, networking events, and high profile speeches. He says that the chance to meet a variety of leaders from different industries has been especially helpful. “Through this internship, I was able, for example, to meet one-on-one with the CEO of MOL Group and listen to his ideas about the direction of the Hungarian economy. I also was able to hear Mihaly Varga, the minister of national economy, speak about Hungarian foreign policy and the strategic alliances that need to be strengthened in order to improve GDP.”
Prior to this internship, Riemann had worked only in the private sector, primarily consulting, public affairs, and professional services. “I now have a much greater understanding of how other sectors of society work,” he says. Riemann says he also has a much better idea now of what he wants to do after he graduates. “This experience has solidified my interest in seeking employment in a position where I will be working at the crossroads between business and politics.”
