Public Policy Students Reflect on Their Internships: Khurram Rasheed at the Peshawar Model Educational Institute

Khurram Rasheed, Pakistan
One-year MAPP candidate, Class of 2015
Intern, Peshawar Model Educational Institute
Rasheed is spending his summer at the Peshawar Model Educational Institute (PMEI) in Pakistan, which was founded in 1979 to provide quality education at an affordable cost.
As a PMEI intern, Rasheed has been tasked to plan and administer an online educational survey. “The aim of the survey,” he explains, “is to analyze specific educational policies in different schools and colleges. My responsibilities include exploring educational development activities, networking with current and prospective educational institute initiatives, developing strategies to form educational policies, and suggesting policy frameworks to ultimately achieve the desired outcome.”
"The most interesting thing about this internship, though, has been the opportunity to work at the grassroots level,” Rasheed says. “This exposure to on-the-ground realities will help me develop the knowledge and experience required to work one day as an education expert in my country.”
Rasheed is particularly interested, over the longer term, in working in the sphere of social entrepreneurship. When he is not busy with his internship, he tries to spend time with like-minded people exploring social entrepreneurship opportunities. He also makes time to support the “Free Tibet” initiative.
