The IZA Journal of European Labor Studies publishes high-quality international research on a wide range of issues of relevance for European labor markets. In its scope it is policy-oriented and focused on applied research work.

The Journal aims at contributing to the current policy debate across Europe and within its various countries. This includes analyses of European labor policy dealing with concrete policy problems, reforms, proposals or issues that are of concern for policy-making.

On April 23, Dean Wolfgang Reinicke of CEU's new School of Public Policy and International Affairs (SPPIA) welcomed over 60 leading scholars and practitioners from across the globe to the school's inaugural conference, “The Future of Public Policy Schools in the 21st Century.” CEU President and Rector John Shattuck described the school as one that “will focus on promoting entrepreneurship in public policy in a time of pressing global and regional challenges as well as new opportunities.”

George Soros Shares His Vision for CEU's New School of Public Policy and International Affairs

CEU Founder and Honorary Chairman of the Board George Soros participated in the inaugural conference of CEU's new School of Public Policy and International Affairs (SPPIA) on April 24. He engaged in a conversation titled “A Global Public Policy School for the 21st Century – My Vision,” moderated by Leonard Bernardo, associate director of Open Society Foundations (OSF) and director of Open Society Fellowship.

Andreea Nastase, PhD candidate at the Department of Public Policy, won the Best Paper Award in the PhD Symposium of the 2011 Annual Conference of the European Group of Public Administration (EGPA). The Symposium, designed as a forum where young researchers in the field of Public Administration and Public Management meet and discuss their research, was chaired by Prof. Christoph Reichard (University of Potsdam, Germany), Dr. Patrick von Maravic (Zeppelin University, Germany), and Frank Bannister (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland).

In connection with CEU's ENPI project that he leads, Martin Kahanec (DPP) advises the World Bank on the lessons for the ASEAN countries from the European Unions' migration experience related to its recent enlargements as well as European Neighborhood Policy.
