The article called "Battle Field of the Giants" about the natural gas markets of Europe was published as a cover story in the Lithuanian monthly business magazine Verslo klase (Business Class) October issue. In the five page article, Vija Pakalkaite extensively introduced the European Commission (EC) antitrust case against Russian gas company Gazprom and described the possible outcomes of the case. Besides that, discussed whether spot natural gas would necessarily be cheaper than the gas acquired via the pipelines on the long-term contract basis.

Martin Kahanec and Lucia Kurekova, both from CEU's Public Policy Department, testified as invited experts before the "Advisory Committee on Free Movement of Workers" of the European Commission, Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion DG, on the impact of labour mobility following European Union’s 2004 and 2007 Eastern enlargements on the sending countries. The Advisory Committee comprises representations of Member States' national administrations, trade unions, and corporate bodies such as employers' associations.

The biannual conference of the European Communications Research and Education Association (ECREA), Europe’s largest platform for communications scholars from various disciplines, took place in Istanbul between 24-27 October, 2012. DPP faculty member Kristina Irion organized a panel in the Communications Law and Policy Section on Independent regulatory agencies in the media sector which disseminated outcomes from two collaborative research projects.

On October 22, 2012, Martin Kahanec spoke in the panel on Mobility – barriers, slacks, effects at the conference on „EU Single Market: Together towards New Growth?“ organized by the European Commission in Bratislava. Kahanec highlighted the positive experience of the EU with post-enlargement mobility in the receiving as well as sending countries, noting that the full potential of free mobility, especially for the sending countries, will be realized if effective brain circulation and brain gain ensue.
