SPP Change in Leadership

August 22, 2019

SPP welcomed back Professor Diane Stone, in a new role as Acting Dean, on August 1st, 2019.  She takes over the role from SPP Professor Martin Kahanec.

From 2004-08, Diane Stone was the University's European Commission Fp6 Marie Curie Chair at CEU. During this time, she was the Foundation Professor of Public Policy in the Centre for Policy Studies. She was the first director of CEUs first Master's Program in Public Policy (MPP) in 2004. She returned to Budapest to oversee the transition of SPP to its new home in Vienna for the 2019-20 academic year.

Diane is the Vice President of the International Public Policy Association.   She has recently published in the inaugural edition of IPPA’s open access journal, the International Review of Public Policy and a major publication in the Oxford Handbook of Global Policy and Transnational Administration this year.

Her research is focused on the one hand, with global policy, the 'new diplomacy' and transnational administration; and on the other, with the role of ideas in policy making, policy transfer and network governance. She is also consulting editor for Policy and Politics and from 2016-19 was a key member of the H2020 project EL-CSID – European Leadership in Cultural, Science and Innovation Diplomacy.

Prior to CEU, Professor Stone had been the Centenary Professor of Governance at the Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis, in the University of Canberra, Australia, and Professor of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. Professor Stone has an outstanding publication record in leading international peer reviewed journals.
