June 24, 2019

CEU ranks 41st and 44th in the world, respectively in the subject areas of Politics and International Studies, and Social Policy and Administration, in which CEU School of Public Policy contributes.

"I am most proud of my colleagues, who in spite of the challenges related to their Alma Mater being forced out of Hungary have shown exemplary resilience and continued to teach and research at the highest international standards," said Martin Kahanec, Acting Dean of SPP.

Programs of study at Central European University (CEU) rank among the best in the world according to the prestigious 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject. “CEU’s global reputation for excellence is once again confirmed by our performance in the QS rankings,” said CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff. “As a postgraduate university community, we are committed to sustaining the rigor of our research and the strength of our teaching.”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities that offer undergraduate and/or taught graduate programs, exceed minimum academic and employer reputation scores and publish a minimum number of papers based on discipline. 48 subjects taught at 1,222 institutions, including postgraduate institutions such as CEU, are ranked across the globe.

Central European University (CEU) also ranks among the best 100 universities worldwide, according to U-Multirank’s 2019-2020 World University Rankings.

“CEU’s great strength as a research-focused graduate institution shines through once again. Researchers and talented students alike are drawn to CEU because of the opportunity to work with its high-caliber faculty and because of its international diversity, just two of the areas where CEU scores highly in the U-Multirank ranking,” said President and Rector Michael Ignatieff.

The university performed especially well in categories focused on international engagement. The university received high scores for external research income, doctorate productivity and number of publications from CEU researchers in the U-Multirank.
