Liou Analyzes the Impacts of Territorial Disputes on Northeast Asia

In a public lecture at the Center for Conflict, Negotiation and Recovery (CCNR) on November 20, Professor To-hai Liou from National Chengchi University outlined how the Senkaku-Diaoyutai Islands dispute between Japan and China has destabilized the geopolitical order in Northeast Asia. "This dispute has had political, economic, and strategic effects on the region," Liou emphasized.

That was one of the questions posed by SPP Visiting Professor Jon Greenwald during a workshop organized by the Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities in cooperation with Central European University (CEU), the Visegrad Fund, and the Milan Šimečka Foundation. The workshop on the role of education in preventing atrocity crimes took place at CEU on November 19.

Ursula Sanchez (MPA ’16) and CEU Colleagues Raise Awareness about the Recent Disappearance of 43 Mexican Students in Ayotzinapa

In cooperation with the Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) at CEU, five Mexican students including SPP student Ursula Sanchez (MPA ’16) are leading a university-wide discussion to try to answer the question, “Who is ruling Mexico?” They were prompted to act in part by the international movement urging local authorities to find the 43 students who went missing in Ayotzinapa on September 26.

Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz answered questions from a diverse group of students in an informal question-and-answer session at the School of Public Policy (SPP) at Central European University on November 11th. SPP Dean Wolfgang Reinicke moderated the event that was co-organized by SPP and CEU’s Department of Economics.
