Krumova Asks About Evolution of Environmental NGOs in Bulgaria

In a faculty research seminar at the School of Public Policy (SPP) on March 26, Visiting Professor Elena Krumova presented her research on organizational change within environmental NGOs in Bulgaria over the past 25 years. “I’m asking questions about how environmental NGOs have changed including diversifying funding sources, types of projects, targets, relations with other organizations, and tactics,” she stated.

Fair Argues Pakistan is “an Army with a Country”

In a public lecture at the Center for Conflict, Negotiation and Recovery (CCNR) on March 27, C. Christine Fair discussed key findings from her recent book, Fighting to the End: The Pakistan Army's Way of War. Fair argued that Pakistan is an ideological state rather than one which is motivated primarily by security concerns.

SPP Students Perform in The Vagina Monologues

On March 19 and 20, the Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) staged performances of The Vagina Monologues. Directed by Simona Gamonte, this is the seventh consecutive year that CEU students have performed the award-winning play. Performers included School of Public Policy (SPP) students Shreya Bhattacharya, Suluck Fai Lamubol, and Shaileshwori Sharma (all MPA ’16). “This play is full of empowering messages on love and humanity,” commented Bhattacharya.

SPP Community Volunteers in Roma Settlement in Bag, Hungary

On March 21, School of Public Policy (SPP) students and staff spent the day volunteering with the Roma community in Bag, Hungary. Working with local NGO BAGázs, SPP students and staff helped members of the Roma settlement in Bag build a fence around a plot of land that will be used for agriculture. This fence will help keep animals away from crops.

Juskauskas (MPA ’15) Wins Second Place at Falling Walls Lab in Ljubljana

Tautvydas Juskauskas (MPA ’15) took home second place at the Falling Walls Lab in Ljubljana, Slovenia for his work on estimating crowd sizes using drones. Falling Walls Labs are held in numerous cities around the world and provide young academics and professionals with opportunities to present their innovative ideas, research, and initiatives.
