Students Learn the Importance of Government Budgets in Implementing Human Rights Policies

On April 21-22, Central European University (CEU) students participated in the workshop “Budgeting for Human Rights: Why Government Budgets are Important for Realizing Human Rights,” organized by the Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) in collaboration with the School of Public Policy (SPP) at CEU. Participants included Roxana Damian (MPA ’15) from SPP and Edi Sara (MA ’15) from the Department of Public Policy.

SPP Students Interview Nobel Laureate Martti Ahtisaari

Corina Ajder, Suluck Fai Lamubol, Ilija Prachkovski, and Lucia Sobekova (all MPA ’16) interviewed Martti Ahtisaari, former president of Finland and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, on April 15. The interview was organized by Jon Greenwald, vice president of the International Crisis Group (ICG) and SPP visiting professor.

SPP Student Ahmad Learned Negotiation in War-Torn Pakistan

Bashir Ahmad witnessed the suffering of his people caught in a war between terrorists, the U.S. and Pakistan. His efforts to represent youth put him in danger.

“I was only 13 years old when I already felt sad and angry because of the constant killings,” said Ahmad, who will be among the first cohort to graduate from CEU’s School of Public Policy (SPP) this spring. “When a friend of mine was killed in a crossfire on his way home to his family, I realized that war is definitely not the way to solve the problems.”
