Bodenstein and Kemmerling revisit the well-known, and somewhat controversial, paradox of redistribution in rich welfare states: the more you target social policies for the poor, the less you spend on them.

Fellow Jay Heung Helps Launch the Aleppo Project during His Year at CCNR

As a research fellow at the Center for Conflict, Negotiation and Recovery (CCNR), U.S Foreign Service Officer Jay Heung helped build the foundations of CCNR's Aleppo Project. The project aims to develop concrete recommendations for the eventual reconstruction of Aleppo, Syria, while taking into account the voices of those traditionally disadvantaged during the reconstruction process, such as those of refugees and women.

The George Soros Visiting Chair at the School of Public Policy at CEU was established to celebrate the 80th birthday of George Soros, the founder of CEU and of SPP, and the Honorary Chairman of the CEU Board of Trustees. It is funded by generous donations from his friends and family. The position is awarded to scholars or practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding academic or professional achievement in the academic, professional, journalistic, political, or civic world of public policy.

CAPTCHA Project on Online Archiving Highlights the Important and Changing Role of Community Media

"Inspiring." "Pioneering." That's how Joost van Beek describes community media in Europe today. Van Beek is a researcher at SPP's Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS). Together with Kate Coyer, they conducted research on behalf of CMDS for the two-year CAPTCHA (Creative Approaches to Living Cultural Archives) project that concluded in August 2015.
