Analyzing democratic policy decision making and counterinsurgency, Global Challenges Junior Fellow Medha Chaturvedi presented a case study on left-wing extremism in India on March 2. The left-wing insurgency today in India includes roughly 45-50,000 foot soldiers, and is the longest ongoing insurgency in India since its independence in 1947.

China and Development in Africa: Looking Backwards and Forwards

Despite their different backgrounds and perspectives, the three panelists agreed that the nature of Chinese engagement in Africa varies enormously among countries. "Africa is not a country," Oxford University PhD candidate and co-convener of the Oxford University China Africa Network (OUCAN) Zainab Usman reminded the audience. She made her observation during a panel discussion at the School of Public Policy at CEU on February 29 on China and Global Development.

Fatlum Gashi (MPA ’17) Argues for a Supranational Approach to the Refugee Crisis

During the 20th Georgetown University Transatlantic Policy Symposium (TAPS) on "Divided Europe? Straining the Limits of Unity," Fatlum Gashi (MPA '17) presented his research paper on how the refugee crisis in Europe has strained EU political cooperation. Gashi was one of eight graduate students selected from a pool of applicants from over 30 countries to participate in this one-day conference organized by the Center for German and European Studies at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
