Ajder Spotlights Working Conditions of Garment Workers in Europe

Corina Ajder (MPA '16) recently travelled to Austria and Germany to speak about the situation of garment workers in Eastern Europe producing for western fashion brands. As a researcher for the Dutch NGO Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC), she met with workers at over 15 factories in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine to find out about their working conditions over the past three years.

SPP Students Row Row Row for CEU

"It was a lot of work and we weren't very successful, but we had a lot of fun," said first-year MPA student Liliana Fernandez. She was one of the 16 students who crewed the CEU boat in the Dunai Regatta on May 7. One of the reasons that the team was not successful is that they were missing two people! First-year MPA student Eli Totino says that it's also true that many of the other teams were exceptionally well trained and had a lot more experience.

Public Policy Alumni Hear Update on School and Celebrate CEU’s 25th

There were lots of hugs, and some introductions when dozens of public policy alumni gathered for the SPP Alumni Coffeehouse on May 6. Although many alumni who attended the event live and work in Budapest, others flew in from London, Riga, Brussels, Geneva, and New York, and from countries as far away as Afghanistan and Canada to participate. The Coffeehouse kicked off a weekend dedicated to celebrating CEU's 25th Anniversary Alumni Reunion.

Hellinger Assesses the Future of Cuba

"There is no doubt that they are ready for change," said Dan Hellinger during a public lecture at the School of Public Policy at Central European University on May 4. He went on to the note that Cubans are also very eager to hold on to their health care system, their educational system, and the "strong sense of safety and trust among Cubans of all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds."
