"[Professor] Robert Templer spoke about research the CCNR [Center for Conflict, Negotiation and Recovery] are conducting now in Syria, and pointed to an interest in exploring the connections between Aleppo and Norway, 'of which there are a surprising number'. Templer pointed to the five-year drought that preceded the civil war, which Templer linked directly to the country's current conflict; Syria was the first country in the world to withdraw seeds from the Seed Bank, located on Svalbard and otherwise known as 'The Doomsday Vault'.

Associate Professor Martin Kahanec was among a distinguished group of scholars elected by the Council of the Academia Europaea on June 26 to join The Academia Europea, which is “the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters.” It boasts a membership of more than 3,500 European scholars with expertise in social and related sciences, exact sciences, and life sciences.

Following the Brexit vote in support of Britain's withdrawal from the EU, we have received a number of inquiries from prospective students of our Erasmus Mundus Masters program that includes the University of York as a valued consortium partner.
