During a special event on "South Asia and the World" at the School of Public Policy at Central European University on December 2, CEU/HESP Research Excellence Fellow and Professor at National Institute of Advanced Studies, India, Carol Upadhya launched her book Reengineering India: Work, Capital, and Class in an Offshore Economy.

“One of the great things about the Atlas Corps program is the network of fellows,” said CEU student Romeo Zelayandia Gonzalez. “It seems that everywhere you go you find someone you know, or you can make a connection through someone you know.” Gonzalez made his remarks during an information session about the Atlas Corps Overseas Fellowship Program (Atlas Corps) that SPP’s Office of Career Services organized on November 30. CEU students and alumni attended the information session in person and online to learn more about the Atlas Corps Fellowship from Program Director Meredith Newmark.

In a public lecture at the Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) on November 28, journalist and media policy consultant Olaf Steenfadt discussed the importance of media pluralism and changes within the media industry. “Independence and pluralism of media, opinions, and views - including criticism of people in power - is the safeguard of a healthy democratic system,” Steenfadt said.

In the first university-wide seminar of the academic year, Karl Hall (Department of History, CEU) moderated a discussion with Nick Sitter (School of Public Policy, CEU), Svein S. Andersen (BI Norwegian Business School), and Andreas Goldthau (Royal Holloway, University of London) on the changing geopolitics of oil and gas on the global and European levels.

Aviation engineers Abdulrahman and Amr Shayah from Aleppo are calling for parachutes to be used to distribute aid rather than bombs to the city. "These engineers believe there's a safe way to deliver food and medical aid to the people of Aleppo, who have been suffering under a siege for over 100 days," said Shattuck Center Fellow AlHakam Shaar.
