LATEST NEWS:

"The George Soros Visiting Chair program has been invaluable to the School providing our students with the opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners and distinguished scholars,” commented School of Public Policy (SPP) Acting Dean Julia Buxton. In addition to teaching a two-credit elective course, George Soros Visiting Chairs also give a public lecture and advise students on their research projects.

The two-week advanced course that SPP’s Global Policy Academy organized with the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) concluded on May 18 with an enthusiastically-received presentation by Daniel Kaufmann, president and CEO of NRGI.

In a public lecture at CEU’s School of Public Policy on May 11, George Soros Visiting Practitioner Chair Aruna Roy spoke passionately about a particularly “relevant and timely” topic: the growing restraints that even democratically elected governments in many countries are imposing on dissent these days. Although she focused her remarks on the situation in India, she noted that this was “a malaise that has spread internationally.”

SPP Assistant Professor Cameran Ashraf recently returned from a visit to the Venice Biennale, a trip he made not as a tourist, but as a participant in the Hungarian Pavilion. “It was a terrific experience – and not something I ever thought I would be doing when I joined SPP last fall as an assistant professor of media and communication,” he says.

The rain on Friday evening disrupted plans to hold the SPP Public Policy Alumni Reunion Coffeehouse outdoors, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm and excitement of returning alumni. More than 30 of them joined public policy students, faculty, and staff for a wonderful evening organized to officially welcome public policy alumni to CEU’s Alumni Reunion 2017.
