Covid 19-related CEU Senate Decisions, Policies and Communications

Dear All, please look to these documents related to COVID 19 communications and decisions by CEU if need be.
SPP is here to support our faculty, staff, students and alumni. OneCEU site has a collection of Rector updates for the community, along with separate communications from the Provost, Dean of Students, on issues such as working from home, guidance to supervisors re work obligations of parents. CEU document repository is where you can find COVID 19 academic decisions, such as grading and extensions, the PhD measures, and cost reimbursement for academics.

	Last week SPP’s Global Policy Academy hosted an OSF-sponsored workshop on “Understanding the Gendered Impact of Drugs, Drug Policy and Drug Policy Enforcement.” As part of the workshop, a public panel discussion was led by Professor Julia Buxton on “Learning from the Latin American Experience: Policy and Advocacy Advancements for Incarcerated Female Drug Offenders.”
	Evidence-free policy making is on the move. This is a particular challenge for the relationship between scientists and policymakers. A workshop with a high-ranked panel of scientists in Budapest engaged in policy advice and policy-making was debating this in the face of the ongoing discussion about the future of the Central European University (CEU).
	Cristina Corduneanu-Huci wins the 2017 Best Paper Award from the Comparative Democratization section of the American Political Science Association. Corduneanu-Huci won the 2017 award for the best paper on Comparative Democratization presented at the previous year’s American Political Science Association convention, for her work with co-author Lenka Bustikova from Arizona State University. The article, “Patronage, Trust and State Capacity: The Historical Trajectories of Clientelism,” has appeared in World Politics in April 2017.
	Julia Buxton, Professor of Comparative Politics at the School of Public Policy, will step down from the role of Acting Dean of SPP at the end of July. During a May 24 faculty meeting, CEU Rector and President Michael Ignatieff thanked Professor Buxton for her service and announced that Professor Martin Kahanec (ECON ’00) will take the helm of the School for one year as of August 1, 2017.
	Graduating MPA students (Class of 2015-17) shared experiences and lessons learned from their nine-month Applied Policy Projects (APP) during a day-long Expo on May 26. The Applied Policy Project is a nine-month engagement between student teams and an external client that enables students to bridge classroom and experiential learning in a consultancy style format that is supported by the Applied Policy Project director, a faculty advisor, and the client organization. It is an integral part of the two-year MPA program.
