SUNRISE: Applied Policy Project and Gergelyi Karácsony
Under a broader EU effort called SUNRISE three School of Public Policy students under the Applied Policy Project coordinated with the 14th district municipal government of Budapest, of which Gergelyi Karácsony was mayor. He has since been elected mayor of Budapest in last month's October election.
Under SUNRISE (Sustainable Urban Neighbourhoods Research and Implementation Support Europe) the students worked with the former Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kinga Goncz, now a CEU professor on the project which was designed to improve mobility in one of Budapest’s largest municipalities, and involved local secondary-school students in a pioneering participatory budgeting exercise.
