The SPP Career Services Newsletter: an Essential Source of Information

January 20, 2017

“The SPP Career Services Newsletter was an essential source of information for my internship search between my two academic years and I continue to refer to it now for my job search for after graduation,” explained second-year MPA student Aron Suba. He is just one of the more than 100 public policy master’s students at CEU’s School of Public Policy who receive the newsletter, which is issued every 2-3 weeks during the academic year. Second-year MPA student Mara Tissera Luna also relies on the newsletter. “I always check the newsletter, and will surely continue to use it for job search purposes after I earn my degree in June,” she says.

SPP’s Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations uses the newsletter to share information with current public policy students about internship and job opportunities and other careers-related information that could be of interest to SPP students. As a pilot project, 2016 alumni are also receiving the newsletter. “The newsletter contains numerous opportunities regarding internships, fellowships, and job vacancies all over the world, as well as notifications from SPP Career Services regarding upcoming events,” says one-year MAPP student Xhenson Cela.

One of the events that was announced in the January 13 newsletter was a workshop on internship search strategies for SPP students that Marija Stojanovska Rupcic will be conducting on January 25 and February 1. Rupcic, who is the coordinator of the SPP Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations, has been in charge of career research since she joined the office in fall 2015. In addition to producing the SPP Career Services newsletter, she ensures that opportunities she identifies through her research are included in CEU’s career platform, career>next, which serves the entire CEU student and alumni community.

“We know job and internship searches can be daunting, so we work very closely with our students,” said Director of SPP Career Services and Alumni Relations Ann Gagliardi. “We support them through individual career consultations, workshops, the “Job Search Basics and Beyond” course that is offered to all incoming master’s students, and career talks and other events where information about specific career paths and opportunities is shared by alumni and other professionals.”
