SPP Students Row Row Row for CEU

May 10, 2016

"It was a lot of work and we weren't very successful, but we had a lot of fun," said first-year MPA student Liliana Fernandez. She was one of the 16 students who crewed the CEU boat in the Dunai Regatta on May 7. One of the reasons that the team was not successful is that they were missing two people! First-year MPA student Eli Totino says that it's also true that many of the other teams were exceptionally well trained and had a lot more experience. "According to our trainer, we achieved a pretty good time," she said, "but there were sport-monsters in the other boats. They beat us mercilessly."

It was Environmental Science student Dann Moreno's post in the CEU Incoming Students Facebook page that first caught the attention of Fernando, Totino, and others. Interested students were invited to upload a short (20-second) video to apply for a spot in the boat. Gaspar Garcia Huidobro Rodriguez (MPA 2017) mobilized SPP students to submit a group video. "The idea to submit a group video really caught a lot of interest and got people motivated," says Fernandez. In the end, eight of the 16 students who rowed on Saturday were SPP students.
