Call for Entries to the Global Debate & Policy Challenge 2013-14

July 25, 2013

Entries are now being accepted for participation in the Global Debate and Public Policy Challenge (GDPPC) 2013-14 and the chance to win one of five $10,000 scholarships payable to a graduate program of your choice.

The GDPPC is an annual writing and debate contest about issues of global importance for students across continents and academic disciplines. The 2013-14 challenge is on international drug policy. What should today’s drug policy look like? How can we measure success in the fight against drug crimes? Can governments win the “war on drugs”?

The challenge asks students to consider how international drug policy impacts security, human rights, health and criminal justice as well as the type of policies that government and other groups should adopt to address the spread of drugs. The challenge consists of two written tasks, which serve as qualifying stages for participation in a June 2014 forum in Budapest. Following the independent evaluation of the first task submissions, a maximum of 200 students will be invited to submit a policy brief and have a chance to move on and fill 50 places at the Budapest forum.

The challenge is open to students formally enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program on or after 1 March 2014 as well as to all recent graduates of an undergraduate program who have not yet enrolled in a graduate program.

The deadline for entires is October 30, 2013. For more information, and to register your entry just click here. Please note that you must register on http://gdppc.idebate.org/ in order to view the GDPPC entry form.

The GDPPC is organized in partnership with the School of Public Policy at Central European University, the International Debate Education Association, the Global Public Policy Institute, and the European Council on Foreign Relations, with the support of Open Society Foundations.
