UPenn Doctoral Students Visit Budapest to Study Hungarian Higher Education System

The Center for Higher Education Policy at School of Public Policy of Central European University hosted a delegation from the University of Pennsylvania over two weeks of seminars and workshops which were held in Budapest and Pécs to study international education policy.
From July 5 to July 17, 21 doctoral students along with members of faculty from the Executive Doctorate in Higher Education at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, were in Budapest to learn about the Hungarian higher education system and meet with its leaders as part of their International Context Education class.
The visit gave students a chance to examine the challenges and opportunities which come with developing higher education in Central and Eastern Europe. Among the Hungarian education leaders with whom the students met was Dr. Istvan Klinghammer, the Under-Secretary in charge of higher education at the Hungarian Ministry for Human Resources. Students also attended a lecture on higher education politics and finance delivered by European Minister and CEU professor Lajos Bokros, and participated in various other seminars and workshops.
The visit concluded with a conference at CEU where the students were given an opportunity to present the findings of the research which they had conducted during their time in Hungary.
