Michael Dorsch, Expert on Political Economy and Social Mobility, Joins the Faculty at SPP

CEU’s School of Public Policy is pleased to announce the appointment of economic expert, Michael Dorsch, as a new assistant professor for the coming school year. Michael comes to SPP by way of Miami University, the University of Illinois and the American University of Paris. Bringing with him a wealth of previous academic and teaching experience to his new role, Michael will be a welcome and valuable addition to the 2013/14 faculty at SPP.

Michael Dorsch is an applied economist whose research and teaching interests are mainly in public economics and political economics. Michael's current research program investigates the political economy of development, with a particular interest in the economic causes and consequences of political instability, civil conflict, and democratization. Michael's previous research has explored topics such as the political economy of special-interest legislation in the United States, the role of social mobility in the political economy of taxation, and the economics of pro-environmental behavior. He has published papers in interdisciplinary journals such as Public Choice, New Perspectives on Political Economy, and Social Science Quarterly.

At SPP, Michael will be teaching the fundamentals of economic analysis for public policy and public economic theory. Michael joins SPP after five years as a professor in Paris, where in addition to teaching economics he also gave world-class bicycle tours of the French capital. Michael received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008.
